Our election process.

The Co-op is governed by a Board that is democratically elected to represent the interests of the entire ownership. Owners choose their board of directors in an election every year.

The Board of Directors is comprised of 11 owners who oversee the General Manager and govern our Co-op through policies. They meet virtually on (usually) the first Monday of every month from 7-9 pm.

To run for the board you must be an owner in good standing, at least 18 years of age, pass a background check and have the ability to meet time commitments. The board recruits candidates every summer, and the election is held in the fall.

If you are interested in running for the board, please fill out the form below and we’ll notify you when the application period is open.

If elected, here’s what you could expect from your Board experience:

  • The Board does not run the store, nor does it exert direct control over daily operations.

  • We operate using a system called “Policy Governance” that clarifies the values of the Lexington Co-op community and the long-term vision of the organization.

  • The Board seeks owner input on the goals and vision of the organization and reports periodically to the owners on its activities, decisions, and compliance with Board policies.
