Legumes of Lent: Chickpeas

Chickpeas

Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo or chi-chi beans, are one of the most popular and adaptable beans around. Great in soups, tossed on salads or blended into a smooth, creamy hummus.

Chickpeas contain loads of fiber and the antioxidant manganese, they have a mild, pleasant flavor and satisfying, toothsome texture. They are native to Middle Eastern, Indian and Greek cuisines, but have found their way into recipes and pantries everywhere! At the co-op, we sell several canned varieties, and dried beans in bulk. Enjoy!
